Price: $180 (price does not include materials)
Tools used: Jewelers saw, bench pin, file set, hammer ball peen, leather hammer, pliers, safety goggles.
In this Silversmithing class you will be taught the lost wax technique of jewelry making. WHAT IS LOST WAX CARVING? It's the technique used to cast your own designs in metal. Carving a wax model is how you prepare your piece for casting. As a wax carver you will take your own sketch or design and translate it into a 3D wax model. Your wax model will be cast and poured with your choice of metal. Wax is versatile and lets you create very sculptural designs like flowers, animals, symbols, etc. Most jewelry actually begin as a wax model. If you are interested in making a one-of-a-kind piece of jewelry that stands apart from the masses such as a ring, charm, earrings, pendant, belt buckle, miniature sculpture, just to name a few, it all starts with an idea. Materials available are copper, silver, bronze or pewter. Skills taught (depending on project chosen) will be carving, sawing, piercing, filing, fitting, hammering, polishing and finishing.
